Usagi Yojimbo: Mysteries

Usagi Yojimbo, Vol. 32: Mysteries (Usagi Yojimbo, #32)Usagi Yojimbo, Vol. 32: Mysteries by Stan Sakai
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Usagi Yojimbo Voume 32: Mysteries contains issues #159-165 of Usagi Yojimbo Volume 3.

I normally read Usagi Yojimbo in the big Saga volumes but since Usagi is moving to IDW and there are two smaller volumes in the series that probably won't be collected, I'm doing this one and the next in the smaller volumes, though it pains me that my set won't match.

The penultimate volume of Dark Horse's Usagi Yojimbo collection is fantastic. All of the stories feature Inspector Ishida, my favorite supporting cast member. Usagi and Ishida team up to unravel some murder mysteries, each part of a much bigger tapestry of crime that will hopefully be revealed in its entirety in the final volume.

Nezumi is an interesting addition to the supporting cast, a ninja with Robin Hood-like tendencies. I'm pretty sure I know who the leader of the Black Goblin Gang is but I'll be waiting for the next volume to see if I'm right. Sakai's art is as perfect as every. It's hard to come up with new words to say how he's a master cartoonist after nine or ten reviews but he undoubtedly is.

The agonizing wait for the final Dark Horse volume to be released begins. The penultimate Dark Horse Usagi Yojimbo trade stands high in the hierarchy. Five out of five stars.
