Your Pal Archie

Your Pal Archie Vol. 1Your Pal Archie Vol. 1 by Dan Parent
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Your Pal Archie is a collection of classic style Archie tales drawn in a more modern style. Dan Parent is on pencils and Ty Templeton writes and inks. It's a great looking book.

Honestly, it took me a little while to get on board with the style, which is influenced on the look of the characters from the Riverdale TV show. Jughead has a goatee, Moose has a mohawk, and Archie's hair is different, not to mention Betty and Veronica moving away from their Dan DeCarlo hair styles. Once I got used to it, I liked the style quite a bit, though.

The stories are pretty standard Archie tales but Templeton and Parent get great mileage out of some old favorites. Archie teaches Jughead how to drive, Reggie hits his head and gets amnesia, and Archie thinking he's won the lottery are the highlights. Archie also finds himself playing the role of the Lodge's driver when he injures their actual driver and Betty decides to be selfish for once.

Dan Parent and Ty Templeton created a retro yet modern Archie book here. I hope to read more of Your Pal Archie in the future. Four out of five stars.
