The Archie Art of Francesco Francavilla by Francesco Francavilla
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Archie Art of Francesco Francavilla is a collection of Francesco Francavilla's Archie art.
I don't usually go for straight up art books but this was on sale for $4.99 on the Archie website a while back. My son is home with an ear infection so I was able to thumb through this during his nap.
This is a gorgeous book. After a variant cover of Life with Archie, Francavilla changed the modern look of the Archie characters and jumpstarted the Archie horror line. As I've said in other reviews, I love his moody ass cartoony artwork and limited color palatte.
There are finished covers, interior artwork, and preliminary layouts in this. I don't usually go for process stuff but it's interesting to see the differences between the layouts and the finished product.
My favorite pieces in the book were a double page of Sabrina and Cthulhu and the variant cover for Archie Meets Batman '66.
There's not a lot else I can say. How do you review an art book? Five out of five flesh eating Archies.
