The Question: Peacemaker

The Question, Vol. 6: The PeacemakerThe Question, Vol. 6: The Peacemaker by Dennis O'Neil
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Has the Question turned to a life of crime? It certainly seems so to Izzy O'Toole. And no one has heard from Victor Sage in days...

The saga of The Question comes to a close. Most of the loose ends are tied up. Victor Sage comes to grips with his inner nature and that of Hub City.

I'm sad to see the story of the working-class Batman come to a close but I'm glad it ended while it was still good. The story of a good man fighting institutional stupidity and corruption is as fresh today as it was almost 30 years ago.

Dennis O'Neil and Denys Cowan took a largely forgotten Steve Ditko creation from the 196s and made him the lynch pin of a new line of mature comics. The Question helped pave the way for the entire Vertigo line and should be even more highly regarded than it is.

The Question: Peacemaker caps off a book decades ahead of its time. It was one hell of a bleak journey. Four out of five stars.
